Nathalie NAGYPÁL is a self-taught painter of Hungarian origin, whose practice is rooted in a sensitive contemporary abstraction, resolutely oriented towards materiality.
On the canvas, she deliberately allows a fragment of herself to rest, seeking to capture a moment of the present and an emotion that speaks to her, destined to continue its journey beyond the artwork. Light plays a structuring role, like a window open onto a suspended fragment of time, evoking passage, transformation, and the idea of new life.
Her work is characterized by in-depth research into textures, based on plays of material removal and superposition, vertical traces, and acrylic layers that build a vibrant and tactile surface. This approach places her painting within a minimalist textured abstraction, in tune with current sensibilities such as wabi-sabi, Japandi, or organic design. The painting functions primarily through material and chromatic harmony, exuding an aesthetic of “discreet luxury,” both highly decorative and controlled.
Her early pieces, conceptual and graphic, evoke almost luminous objects, while more recent canvases fully embrace a more pictorial and decorative orientation, designed to interact with interior architecture.
Her main studio is located in Porto (Portugal), but her artistic approach also develops from Belgium, in a constant balance between intimate anchoring and universal openness.
